Adopt America’s Most Popular Pet this Month
June is National Adopt A Cat Month
Among rescue workers, this time of year is not-so-affectionately known as “kitten season.” That’s because right now most shelters are bursting at the seams with the adorable little fuzzballs, in addition to millions of adult cats needing homes.
To bring awareness to this issue and help save lives, the American Humane Association teamed up with Petfinder.com and the CATalyst Council to designate June as “Adopt-A-Cat Month.” So if you’ve ever considered adding a tortie, tabby or tuxie to your family, now is the perfect time!
There’s a reason cats are the most popular pet in the U.S., with an estimated 95 million of them living in our homes. They are wonderful, loving companions and they’re usually easy to care for. However, taking on a kitten or adult cat is still a big responsibility. Indoor cats can live up to 16 years or more (compared with outdoor cats, which only live an average of 4-8 years!).
So before you rush out to your nearest shelter, make sure you and any family members are prepared for your new feline friend. Check out an article I wrote for Bissell’s pet community on “my five favorite tips”, for a positively “purr-fect” adoption!
